Mary stood in front of the bathroom mirror trying to put her earrings in.Her 
hands were shaking with excitment in two hours she would see Paul again.She 
had never missed anyone like this before.She thought of him everyday."Here 
let me help you."Lee said laughing at her daughter.Mary sighed as she handed 
the back of the earring to her mother."Your acting like a teenager going out 
on her first date!"Lee said smiling as she placed the back on Mary's hoop 
earring.Mary laughed "I hope Dad likes him."Mary said as she rolled her 
eye's.Lee laughed "Well you know your father.He'll embarrass you and then we 
will all laugh."Lee said as she looked at her daughter.Mary smiled "I know he 
will.I just hope Paul laughs too."Mary said as she bit her lip."If he is as 
wonderful as you say he is everything will be fine.Now lets get ready we have 
alot to do before your Birthday party!"Lee said as she kissed Mary's 
cheek.....
 
Mary sliped her shoes on and walked into the living room of her 
apartment."I'm going to pick up Paul."she said.Mary's father looked up from 
the story he was reading to Katie."Now Mary are you sure you don't want your 
old dad to come with you."he said in a concerned voice.Tom Peterson wasent 
crazy about his little girl living in New York City,and he was not to sure 
about this rock and roll guy she had started dating."No dad I'll be 
fine."Mary said as she kissed the top of his bald head."Are you going to take 
a cab?"he asked.Mary smiled knowing his speech about her not owning a car was 
coming."Yes dad."she said."You know your mother and I will help you buy a 
car."he said.Mary shook her head.Mary's father still dident understand how 
much money Mary had made off her book."No Dad I'm fine if I want a car.I'll 
buy one.Its just easier in New York to take cabs."she said as she headed 
towards the door.Tom shook his head at her."The offer is still there."he 
called as she walked out the door......
 
Mary stood in the airport waiting for Paul to come through the plane's 
doorway.Her heart was pounding so hard she thought it would burst from her 
chest.She watched as people began to come through the doors.She held her 
breath when she saw him step through the doors.....
 
Paul took a deep breath as he grabed his carry on bag from the overhead 
compatment.He wanted to knock people out of the way to get off the plane 
faster.Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion today.He just wanted to 
feel her in his arms once more.It had felt like forever when in fact it had 
only been a week.Paul steped through the doorway and there she was standing 
in a pair of black leather pants and a red halter top.Her long brown hair was 
down framing her beautiful face.He walked quickly towards her smiling as he 
wraped his arms around her."My Mary"was all he could say as he held her in 
his arms......
 
Paul pulled back to look at her.He held her hands as he looked at her."I 
missed you."he said as he leaned in and kissed her.Mary leaned into him happy 
at last that they were together."Lets get out of here."Mary whispered into 
his ear....
 
Mary and Paul slid into a waiting cab and they were off.Paul's arms warped 
around her the moment the door of the cab was closed."I've got a big surprise 
for you!"Paul said as he held Mary in his arms.Mary looked up at him."Whats 
that?"Mary asked wondering what he had up his sleeve."I'm going to be doing 
the Phantom on Broadway!"Paul said.Mary sat up and looked at him."Oh my God 
thats great!"Mary said as she kissed him.Paul smiled."We can be 
together!"Paul said as he tightened his hold on her.Mary smiled."I love 
you."she said softly.Paul smiled to himself as he held her close knowing that 
they would be togther forever.....
 
The cab stoped in front of the Plaza Hotal."I hope you don't mind staying at 
a hotal till my folks go back to St Louis."Mary said with concern."Not at 
all.Its only for a one night."he said as he slid out of the cab.Paul paid the 
driver and grabed his bags.Mary and Paul put there arms around each other and 
looked up at the hotal building before they walked inside."This is whare it 
all started."Mary said softly as memories flooded her mind of when they had 
first met.Paul nodded "Yes my love.this is the place we found each other."he 
said as he took her hand.They walked into the lobby and looked around all the 
Christmas decorations that had been there in December were long gone.Mary 
squeezed Paul's hand as they walked to the desk.Mary walked to the bar and 
looked inside while Paul got his room.Mary closed her eye thinking about how 
much in her life had changed sense that night in December.Paul walked up 
behind her.He gently put his hand on her shoulder."Come on my love."he 
said.Mary smiled as she followed him to the elavator........ 
 
Mary and Paul waited for the elavator like they had so many months ago.This 
time there was no fear of being caught as they steped inside the 
elavator.Paul wraped his arms around her as the elavator climbed to the tenth 
floor."I want you."he whispered as the elavator doors slid open.Mary and Paul 
quickly walked to his room.Mary stood beside him as he opened the door.He put 
down his bags as he steped inside.He quickly kicked the door shut and pulled 
her into his arms."Happy Birthday."he said as he kissed her deeply.His tongue 
entered her mouth exsploring every corner."Make love to me...."Mary gasped 
when there kiss ended.Paul let his hands roam down her back."I've missed you 
so much.I have to be inside of you...."he moaned as he sliped his hands under 
her halter top.Mary leaned her head back as he rained tiny kisses down her 
neck.Paul pulled the top down exsposing her breast.His hands slid over her 
breast causeing Mary to moan softly."I love you so much...."Paul whispered 
aginst her neck.Mary sliped her hand under his shirt a carressed his 
chest.Paul pulled away from there embarce"Come on."he said as he led her to 
the kingsize bed.Paul laid down pulling Mary down on top of him.Mary lay on 
top of him as they kissed deeply leting there hands carress and tease one 
anothers bodies.There moans migling together in the hotal room.Paul and Mary 
quickly shed there clothse gasping as they lay skin to skin.Paul rolled Mary 
onto her back spreading her legs apart gently.He gazed down at her smiling as 
he entered her wettness.Mary let out a soft gasp as he moved inside of 
her."Say you love me....."Paul gasped as he increased his movement deep 
inside of her wettness.He loved to hear her say the words."Oh yes....I love 
you..."Mary moaned as she griped his firm ass pulling him deeper inside of 
her."Ohhh...God.."Paul cried out as he and Mary came together.Paul rolled 
away from her pulling her close to him."I do love you so much."he whispered 
as she curled up in his arms."And I love you."Mary said smiling as she lay 
there enjoying his warmth.Paul smiled down at her "Wait here."he said as he 
moved to get up."Whare are you going?"Mary asked."Just wait there."he said as 
he walked over to his suit cases.Mary heard him opening up his suitcase as 
she sat up to see what he was doing.Paul walked to the bed hiding something 
behind his back.He knelt next to the bed and looked deep into Mary's 
eye's.Mary smiled as she wondered what he was doing."Marry me?"he said shyly 
as he pulled a small black box out from behind his back.Mary smiled as she 
sat up and wraped her arms around his neck."Yes, oh yes!!"she said as she 
held him.Paul laughed as tears of joy came to his eyes."Don't you want the 
ring?"he asked as he pulled away to look at her."Who cares about the ring as 
long as were together!"Mary said as she whiped her own tears away.Paul grined 
as he looked at her knowing she really dident care as long as they were 
together.Paul slowly opened the box and took the engagment ring from the 
box.He took Mary's left hand a sliped the diamond solitaire on her 
finger.Mary held her hand out to look at the ring."Oh Paul."was all she could 
say as she looked at the gold band with the round solitaire in the middle 
with two tiny heart shaped diamonds on each side."Happy Birthday baby.I hope 
all your wishes come true."he said softly as he kissed her softly..... 
 
Paul and Mary steped out of the cab in front of Mary's apartment 
building.Mary was nervous about Paul meeting her parents.Paul paid the driver 
and took Mary's hand."This is a nice building."Paul said as Mary and he 
walked to the elavator.Mary nodded as they waited."Paul I think I should warn 
you that my dad is very protective.Please don't take anything he might say 
wrong."Mary said.Paul laughed as he looked at her."Meet the parents time!"he 
said.Mary smiled "I know he will love you once he gets to know you.Its just 
well..."Mary said searching for the words."Its just that he loves you and 
your his little girl."Paul said.Mary squeezed his hand "Yes I guess thats 
what I'm trying to say."she said as the elavator doors opened......
 
Mary smiled at Paul as she opened the door."I'm home"Mary called as she 
steped inside.Katie and Tommy rushed to the door for there hugs.After hugging 
Mary,Katie threw herself into Paul's waiting arms.Paul picked her up and 
kissed her cheek."I missed my angel!"he said as Katie grined at him."Hi 
Paul!"Tommy said as he gave Paul quick hug.Mary's mom and dad stood in the 
living room watching there grandchildren greet the tall dark haired 
man."Mom,Dad this is Paul Stanley.Paul this is my mom,Lee and my dad 
Tom."Mary said as she walked acrossed the room.Paul followed close behind 
still carrying Katie in his arms."Hello sir."Paul said as he put his hand out 
for Tom to shake.Tom looked Paul right in the eye's as he took his hand.Tom 
was just a little taller then Paul."Nice to meet you."Tom said in a load 
voice.Paul smiled as he released the hand shake.Paul turned and exsteneded 
his hand to Mary's mother Lee."I can see whare Mary gets her good looks."he 
said to Lee.Lee was short just like Mary and had salt and pepper colored 
hair.Lee smiled as she shook Paul's hand.Mary saw her father give Paul one of 
his famous don't butter me up looks.Mary shook her head at her father."So 
Mary tells us your in some sort of band."Tom said as he walked over to the 
sofa.Paul nodded as he sat down in a chair across from him."Yes I've been in 
the band KISS for almost thirty years."he said proudly.Mary looked at her 
mother and whinced as her father said "Do you make a good living doing that 
sort of thing?"Katie hopped down from Paul's lap and sat down on the floor 
next to her brother.Paul smiled a knowing smile at Mary as she stood in the 
living room next to her mother."Yes I do pretty well.'he said.Tom nodded as 
he reached in his back pocket.Lee grabed Mary's arm."Come on lets let them 
talk."she said.Mary sighed knowing that she really couldent stop her father's 
grilling of Paul.Paul watched as Tom took out his wallet to show Paul Mary's 
baby photo."Thats Mary when she was three months old!You know Mary was 
adopted.Her mother and I got her when she was four days old."he said with 
pride.Paul was stunned for a moment.He had no ideia that Mary was 
adopted.Paul looked at the smiling baby in the picture that Tom held out to 
him."I guess she dident tell you."he said as he put his wallet back into his 
pocket.Paul shook his head."Well she is a very special to me.I hope you 
understand how wonderful she is."Tom said as he looked at Paul.Paul smiled 
"Yes I know she is a very special person."Paul said."I never did like 
Chad.All thoe he was a good provider.My daughter is alot like Lee.She has her 
own mind.I don't even try to tell Lee what to do.I never have.Not that she 
would listen.Chad was way to controling for my little girl.I hope she doesnt 
get herself involved with another man like that."Tom said."Well sir.I have to 
tell you that I love your daughter very much.I know that she had a bad 
marrige.I can promise you I would never try and tell her what to do."Paul 
said hopeing to ease his mind."Cut the sir crap.Call me Tom."Tom said.Paul 
nodded "Alright."he said."How old are you?"Tom asked as he looked closly at 
him.Paul cleared his throat he was starting to feel like a teenager as he sat 
there being grilled by Mary's father."I'm fiftey."Paul said."No way!"Tom said 
in a shocked voice.Paul smiled and nodded."Don't you think maybe your a 
little old for my daughter?"Tom asked."Well I really don't think age has much 
to do with whats in your heart."Paul said.Tom nodded as he looked at Paul."Do 
you do drugs?"Tom asked bluntly.Paul's mouth droped open for a second."No 
sir,I mean Tom,Never."Paul said.Tom's face broke into a smile."Well other 
then needing a hair cut.I think your alright."he said as he slaped Paul on 
the shoulder.....
 
Mary knelt next to the kitchen door with her ear pressed aginst trying to 
hear eveything that was being said."Stop that Mary!"Lee said as she pulled 
her daughter up from her position."Mom!I just know he is going to scare 
Paul."Mary said as she stood up."No he's not.Has he ever scared any of your 
boyfriends before?"Lee said.Mary nodded "Yes he has."Mary said.Lee looked at 
her as she put her hands on her hips."Like who?"Lee said."Rob Walters,Todd 
Grant,Mike Johnson,..."Mary said as her mother put her hands up."Alright 
maybe he has scared a few.But none of those boys were good enough for 
you."Lee said."Mom"Mary said as she held out her left hand to show her the 
ring that Paul had given her."OHHHHH..."Lee said loadly as she grabed Mary's 
hand to look at the ring."Does this mean what I think it means?"Lee said.Mary 
smiled "Yes mom I'm getting married."Mary said.Lee smiled "Well I guess I 
better go save him before your father kills him with his little talk."Lee 
said as she opened the kitchen door........
 
Lee flew through the kitchen door."Oh Paul,Mary just told me the news ."she 
gushed.Paul and Tom both looked up at her.Paul smiled knowing that Mary had 
told her about there engagemaent."What news?"Tom asked in a puzzeled 
voice."Mary's getting married."Lee said with excitment.Tom looked over at 
Paul as Tommy and Katie started shouting with joy."To who?"Tom asked in a 
teasing voice."Oh Tom!Stop teasing the poor man!"she said.Tom smiled as he 
stuck his hand out to Paul."Welcome to the family."Tom said.Paul shook Tom's 
hand"I promise I'll make your little girl happy."Paul said.... 
 
Mary stood there releaved that Paul was still left standing after all the 
hugs and shouts of joy from her parents and children.Paul smiled at Mary as 
he walked across the room to stand next to her."So when are you geting 
married?"Tommy asked with a smile.Mary laughed "I don't know."Mary said as 
she looked up at Paul."Very soon!"Paul said as he put his arm around Mary.Tom 
laughed as he walked over and hugged his daughter."I always thought a man 
should ask the father for his daughter's hand in marrige!"Tom said teasing 
Paul.Mary laughed as she rolled her eye's at her dad."Give me a break! I 
dident know the girl's father had anything to do with who his daughter chose 
to spend the rest of her life with."Lee said as she hugged Paul.Tom pointed 
to his Mary,"See just like her mother!"he said.Paul laughed "I like my women 
to be independent."Paul said."Thats good because I'am very independent."Mary 
said......
 
Mary walked Paul to the curb to hail a cab,so he could get ready for the 
party.He pulled her close as he stood there for a moment."I'm sorry about my 
dad."Mary said as she stood wraped in his arms."Hey its alright.Wait till you 
meet my folks."he said laughing.Mary smiled "I guess all parents are the same 
in away.Its just my dad can be so bold sometimes."Mary said."He just loves 
his little girl."Paul said as he kissed the top of her head.Mary nodded."Why 
dident you tell me you were adopted?"he asked as he held her.Paul could feel 
her tense up in his arms."I just don't like to think about it.Does it bother 
you?"Mary asked.Paul could hear a little fear in her voice."Not at all.I just 
was wondering why you never told me."Paul said.Mary shook her head."Sorry I 
should of said something."She said.Paul pulled away from her to look at 
her."I love you."he said.Mary smiled "I love you too."she said softly."I need 
to get back to my hotal.I'll meet you at the party."he said as a cab stoped 
in front of the building.Mary and Paul kissed once more before he slipped 
inside of the cab.Mary turned and walked back towards the building......
 
Mary buckeled Katie's white shoe as Katie sat on the edge of her bed."Mommy 
when you marry Paul are we going to move again?"Katie asked.Mary looked up at 
her."Yes but not for awhile,Paul's going to be here doing a musical."Mary 
said as she grabed her other shoe."Can I call Paul Daddy?"Katie asked.Mary 
cleared her throat as she thought for a moment."Katie I don't know about that 
you can ask Paul tonight when you see him at the party."Mary said."Is Matt 
going to be there?"Katie asked."Yes he is.He is the one who's throwing the 
party fo me.Now lets hurry up.I still need to get ready."Mary said knowing 
that Katie could ask quistions all night along if Mary would let her.Mary 
walked out of Katie's room thinking about Matt.She hadent spoken to him sense 
that night in the hotal.He had called once about the Birthday party and Hilda 
had taken the message.Mary walked to her room and closed the door.She took 
the dress from the back of the closet.She took it from the hanger.It was a 
pale lavender mini dress with spaghetti straps.It had a tight fitting top 
that went down to a loose flowing skirt.She really dident feel like going to 
the party that was being throwen in honer of her Birthday.She knew there 
would be alot of other writers there and famous people, that she had met in 
the last six months.It wasent like they were friends of hers.after all she 
was a pretty new writer.She hadent had a real chance to get to know 
anyone.Mary sighed as she pulled the dress over her head.Mary pulled her 
stockings on as she heard the door to her room open."Almost ready?"Lee asked 
as she walked in and sat down on Mary's bed.Mary smiled as she nodded."Well 
how do I look?"Mary's mother asked as she showed off the gray pants suit she 
was wearing.Lee never wore dresses."You look great mom!"Mary said as she 
pulled the pair lavender pumps out of the box.Mary had them died to match her 
dress."Oh nice shoes!"Lee said with a laugh.Mary grined her mother was always 
the orginal tom boy."You like them?"Mary said.Lee laughed "You know me 
clothes are just clothes.I'm surprised you grew up knowing anything about 
fashion."Lee said as she watched her daughter slip the shoes on."Mom you did 
a wonderful job."Mary said as she kissed her mom's cheek.Lee smiled at 
her."Yes I did."Lee said.Mary laughed at her mother."Mary I hope Paul makes 
you happy."Lee said softly.Mary looked at her mother."Mom I'm very happy 
right now.I love him very much and I plan on staying that way for a very long 
time."Mary said.Lee smiled as she walked towards the door."Come on we need to 
get going."Lee said.Mary nodded "I'll be done in second."Mary said......
 
Mary was nervous as the limo pulled up in front of the restarunt that Matt 
had rented for the night.Mary's father could tell that something was 
bothering her."You look like your going to the denteist instead of your 
Birthday party."He remarked as he looked at Mary.Mary forced a smile.She 
hadent told her folks about Matt's advances.She knew it would only upset 
them.They all steped out of the limo.Mary took Katie and Tommy's hand as her 
brother Tony ran over to greet them."There you guys are!"he said hugging Lee 
and Tom.Mary smiled at her brother as he walked over and kissed her 
cheek."Happy Birthday lil Sis."he said.Mary hadent seen Tony sense 
Christmas."Hey big bro!Its wonderful to see you."Mary said."Sandy and the 
kids couldent make it but they send there love."He said as hugged Katie and 
Tommy.Mary nodded as they all headed to the door."I sure as hell dident want 
to walk in here alone."Tony whispered to Tom.Tom nodded as he followed the 
others inside.Mary looked around the room it was decorated with party favors 
a huge banner was hanging up.'Happy Birthday Mary.'it read.Mary looked as all 
the namless people walked towards her with Birthday greetings.Mary shook 
hands with them as her eye's scaned the room for Paul.She smiled at them 
doing her best to remember there names.Mary felt a hand on her shoulder.She 
turned to see Matt looking at her."Happy Birthday."he said as he leaned and 
kissed her cheek."Matt thank you!"Mary said as she steped away from him.Matt 
tried to move a little closer when he heard Paul call Mary's name.Mary turned 
and waved.Paul came to stand next to her.He shot Matt a angry look as he 
wrapped his arm around Mary's shoulder.Matt stalked away to a one of the many 
tables sitting around the room."Are you ok?"Paul whispered in Mary's ear.Mary 
smiled and nodded as another group of people came forward.Mary smiled and 
shook there hands."Thank you'she said as they stood there talking to her."Who 
are all these people?"Mary whispered as they kept coming towards her.Paul 
laughed as he shrugged his shoulders."Matt's friends"he said.Mary laughed 
"Yes because the only ones I know are you and my family."Mary said.as she 
noticed that her family had moved into the room and were sitting together at 
one of the tables."Come on."Paul said as he took her hand when there was a 
break in well wishers.Paul pulled her over to the table whare her family was 
sitting...... 
 
Paul pulled a chair out for Mary.Mary sat down gratful to be away from the 
strange people who seem to know her.Mary quickly introduced Tony to Paul.Paul 
shook Tony's hand.Tony was almost as tall as Paul.Tony was a nice looking man 
with sandy colored hair."Good to meet you.I'm a big fan."Tony said as he 
shook Paul's hand.Paul nodded "Thanks"Paul said as he sat down next to 
Mary."Would you like a drink?"Tom asked Mary as he stood up."Yes please a 
white wine."Mary said as she put her hands to her head."Are you alright?"Lee 
asked noticing Mary rubbing her temples."Yes I'm just a little overwheled.I 
don't feel comfortable here.I really would of been happy with just a nice 
family dinner at the apartment."Mary said as she forced a smile.Paul rubbed 
her shoulders trying to make her feel better.Katie and Tommy were sitting at 
the table there eye's wide as couple started to float onto the small dance 
floor as music started to loadly play.Tony got up from the table to go help 
his dad with the drinks.Katie stood up from her seat and boldly walked over 
to Paul."Will you dance with me?"Katie asked him smiling.Paul grined as he 
took her little hand."Yes I would love to dance with you."he said.Mary looked 
over at her mother and smiled as Paul and Katie walked to the dance floor 
together."He is going to be good for the children."Lee whispered to Mary.Mary 
nodded "Yes he is a wonderful man.'Mary said.Tommy was smiling as he watched 
his sister dancing with his soon to be step dad......
 
Paul picked Katie up into his arms and danced her lovingly around the 
floor.She was grining from ear to ear as she held his neck."I need to ask you 
something?"Katie said as she looked at him.Paul's heart melted when he heard 
her soft voice."Anything?"he said."Can I call you daddy?"she whispered in his 
ear.Paul smiled as he gave her little kiss."Yes you can call me daddy."Paul 
said...... 
 
The song soon faded as Paul carried Katie off the dance floor to the 
table."Thank you my little angel."Paul said as he sat down with her in his 
lap."Your welcome Daddy."Katie said smiling at him.Mary leaned over and 
kissed Paul on the cheek as tears came to her eye's."Thank you."she said 
softly as she whiped her tears away.Paul smiled as he reached over and 
touched Mary's knee.Mary and Paul looked into each others eye's.Mary felt a 
hand on her shoulder to look up and see Matt standing over.Mary sighed as she 
looked up at him.Leave it to him to ruin a wonderful moment Mary 
thought."Come on Mary.Time for your Birthday wishes!"he said as he pulled her 
from her seat.Paul glared at Matt as he took Mary's arm and led her to the 
dance floor."Could I please have your attention everyone?"Matt shouted into 
the mioraphone.Everyone stoped what they were doing to look at Matt and 
Mary.Mary could feel all the eye's upon her as she stood there.She closed her 
eye's she hated being the center of attention."We have all come here tonight 
to celabrate our good friend Mary's Birthday.I just wanted to say here's to a 
wonderful woman and brillent auther.May she have many more best sellers in 
her future.And a very happy birthday"Matt said as he leaned over and kissed 
Mary on the cheek.Mary forced a smile as she stood there with Matt's hand 
griping her arm.A large cake in the shape of a book was wheeled out with 
candels ablaze .Everyone broke into singing 'Happy Birthday'.Mary felt a hand 
on her shoulder as she stood there.She looked up to see Paul glaring at 
Matt.Matt released her arm quickly.Mary smiled up at Paul as the song 
ended."Make a wish baby."Paul said as he kissed her cheek.Mary pushed her 
hair back as she leaned over and blew out the candels.Everyone claped and 
cheered.Mary waved and smiled "Thank you."She said loadly to the crowd.Two 
people came from the kitchen and began to serve the cake.Paul took Mary's 
hand and walked her back to the table.....
 
Mary sat down gratful that her public apperance was over."Mary,I don't like 
that Matt guy."Tom said after Mary had sat down.Mary sighed as she looked at 
her dad."Dad he's just my publisher."Mary said."Well he looks sneaky.I don't 
like the way he holds on to your arm.Its like your a prize are something.He 
reminds me of Chad."Tom said as he looked at his daughter.Lee gently taped 
Tom on the shoulder as if trying to say thats enough.Paul looked at Tom."I 
agree I don't like him either."Paul said as he looked across the room at 
him.Tony followed Paul's gaze to look at Matt.Tony narrowed his eye's he 
dident say anything but he didnet like the way he acted eiether.Mary pushed 
her chair out."I need to use the ladies room."Mary said."Me too mommy!"Katie 
said as she jumped up from her seat.Mary smiled down at her as she took her 
hand......
 
Mary made her way through the restarunt holding Katie's hand.She wanted to 
just be alone with her family for awhile.She knew that tommrow the children 
would be leaving for three weeks to viset there father.She needed to be with 
them not people she dident know at some party.Mary was stardeled when a young 
blond woman grabed her arm."Ms,Peterson!"the woman said.Mary smiled "Yes"Mary 
said trying to figure out who she was."I'm Lisa!We spoke on the phone 
once!"Mary stood there trying to think."Oh you know I'm Paul's ex
